The Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) advances child health through innovation in the quality, cost and delivery of care. Representing more than 220 children’s hospitals, CHA is the voice of children’s hospitals nationally. CHA champions public policies that enable hospitals to better serve children, and is the premier resource for pediatric data and analytics, driving improved clinical and operational performance of member hospitals. CHA has offices in Washington, DC, and Lenexa, KS.

 

Job Summary:

CHA’s Research and Statistics Department uses data and analytics to support children’s hospitals in fulfilling their mission of service to children and their communities. This full-time summer internship will provide an excellent professional experience for a student with a strong interest in analytics applied to the health care setting. The statistics intern will work with CHA biostatisticians to support on-going health service research projects. The range of possible projects includes:

  • Describing utilization patterns among sub-populations receiving care at children’s hospitals.

  • Assessing changes in utilization patterns over time.

  • Comparing and contrasting services provided at children’s hospitals from pediatric services provided by other community healthcare providers.

Developing or adapting analytic methodologies for application in a pediatric healthcare setting.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a collegiate or graduate course of study, preferably in statistics, biostatistics, health economics or epidemiology, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. If an undergraduate student, the candidate must have completed at least the sophomore year. Candidates with the following skills and experience are encouraged to apply:

  • Understanding of fundamental statistical and analytic principles

  • Professionalism, strong writing and analytic skills, ability to work in team setting

  • Knowledge of statistical software SAS, R, SPSS, or GraphPad preferred

  • Work experience or familiarity with a health care setting, preferred but not required

  

Program Details:

  • The summer internship is a 12-week, full-time (40 hours/week) placement
  • CHA will work with the intern and the respective educational institution to ensure appropriate administration of the internship and academic requirements
  • Rate of pay will be $15 per hour
  • The internship will be located in the CHA Lenexa, KS office; relocation, housing, mileage, etc., are not offered
